PRESS: Jody Hill Gets Championy With Kenny Powers and K-Swiss
K-Swiss gets a little dirty with their new integrated campaign with 72andSunny and produced by Caviar, promoting the new Tubes shoes, directed by Caviar’s own Jody Hill and starring Danny McBride as his “athletic” alter-ego Kenny Powers.
Riffing on their comedic partnership for the popular HBO series “Eastbound and Down,” Jody and Danny take it to the next level, matching wanna-be jock Kenny Powers with New Orleans Saint Jeremy Shockey, 49er Patrick Willis, and three-time MMA champion Urijah Faber. K-Swiss and 72andSunny outdid themselves with this off-the-hook campaign, which features a number of attention-grabbing aspects right in line with Kenny Powers’ trait of shameless self-promotion. The campaign launched with an exclusive Funny Or Die video featuring Kenny Powers signing with K-Swiss and proposing some seriously outrageous proposals to the board of directors. Within hours, the spot was hit with over 100,000 views, aided by Kanye West who tweeted a spot out to his 380,000 followers.
In addition, the campaign features billboards graced with Kenny Powers face in Times Square and Venice Beach with an 888 number where callers can dial in to hear an inspirational message from Kenny P (1-888-With-Tubes-I-Will-Train-The-F-Out); a campaign micro-site; New York City subway posters; a Facebook app called “Workout Wingman”, which allows Kenny Powers to take over your Facebook page and respond to your friends while you are logged off and (supposedly) working out; a cover takeover of ESPN the magazine (see below); and :60/:30/:15 spots that will air nationwide in movie theaters and channels such as ESPN, Comedy Central and MTV.
Coverage of the campaign has spanned media outlets, from ad trades such as Creativity and Agency Spy to straight news sources New York Magazine, the The Huffington Post and CNBC. And, of course, YouTube.
